Spartans Inglis breaks mile record at Ralph Vernacchia

April 28, 2014, BELLINGHAM, Washington (ISN) – Trinity Western’s Sarah Inglis (Falkrik, Scotland) led the Spartans track and field team at Western Washington University’s Ralph Vernacchia meet Saturday as she set the meet record in the mile with a winning time of 4:46.09 Saturday at Civic Stadium.

Inglis’ time, which was more than 12 seconds ahead of second place, bettered the previous record of 4:58.60, which was set by Seattle University’s Madison Davis at last year’s meet.

While Inglis was the Spartans record-breaker, it was an impressive overall day for TWU, with the team capturing a total of seven gold medals.

James Linde (Coquitlam, B.C.) led the way on the men’s side with three first place finishes, winning the 100m in 10.84, the 200m in 21.85 and the long jump with a jump of 6.87m.

Joel de Schiffart (Nanaimo, B.C.) won the mile race in 4:12.73 while Calum Innes (Bearsden, Scotland) took top spot in the 110m hurdles in 14.61 and Nathan Dunford (Bellingham, Wash.) finished first in pole vault with a clearance of 4.73m.
