Velox Rugby news, April 29, 2014

April 29, 2014 (ISN) – The club split games with up in Cowichan on Saturday, with the Valhallians managing a narrow victory (14-11) to repeat as the winners of the Cowichan Cup (for Island first division honours).

  • 1st Div: Velox 14 – Cowichan 11
  • 3rd Div: Velox 27 – Cowichan 36

That earns them home field advantage for a provincial semi-final match (Okanagan Spring Brewery League 1) against UBC this Saturday. They women will also be home Saturday, in a semi-final against Capilano.

The 3rds came up short in their match against the Piggies, losing the Island final 36-27, after claiming top spot for the last four years. It’s not over for the 3rds yet, as 2nd place earns us a berth in the provincial 3rd division playoffs for Tier B. That means a road trip to Capilano on Saturday, and an actual training session this Thursday night.

That’s three provincial semi-finals for the club this Saturday, including a double header at home! Good luck to all our squads!
