Senior pitcher-outfielder Alana Westerhof earned recognition as the A.I.I.’s second-team utility player. The Delta native led UBC’s pitching staff with a 9-8 record and an earned run average of 3.00 in 86.1 innings of work. At the plate, Westerhof recorded a batting average of .328, two home runs and 15 runs batted in. She set a program record on Feb. 20 with 15 strikeouts in a game against Northwest Nazarene in Nampa, Idaho.
Carlyn Shimizu was one of four outfielders named to the second All-Conference Team. The Richmond native led the Thunderbirds in runs scored (26), hits (33) and stolen bases (five).
Both players were honoured with a place on the first All-Conference Team last season.
UBC, with a record of 14-13, will open the A.I.I. Conference Softball Championship on Thursday morning at 8 a.m. Pacific against the Houston-Victoria Jaguars. All games at the tournament will be broadcast, with live statistics, on the Grizzly Digital Network. All games not involving host Georgia Gwinnett will cost $7.95.
