May 1, 2014, Kamloops, BC (ISN) – The Kamloops Blazers have selected 15-year-old defenseman Nolan Kneen with the third overall pick in the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft.
Kneen is a North Vancouver native who played this season with the North Shore Winter Club Winterhawks Bantam AAA team.
“Nolan is an elite defenseman that has the ability to control a game from the backend,” commented Director of Player Personnel, Matt Recchi. “He has the skillset to contribute at both ends of the ice, and his character and competiveness are evident in his game.”
Listed at 5’11” and 165lbs, the elite defenseman racked up 22 goals, and 60 points in 69 games this season.
Kneen was an assistant captain with the Winterhawks this season and helped the team win the Western Canadian Bantam Championship title scoring the game winning goal in double overtime over the Lloydminster Heat.
“We feel we have selected the best defenseman available in the draft,” commented Recchi. “He is a winner and we are proud to welcome Nolan and his family to the Kamloops Blazers organization.”
