May 2, 2014, Montreal (ISN)– Milos Raonic (Thornhill, ON) played his fourth quarter-final of the season on Friday at the Portugal Open, an ATP World Tour 250 event. He was unable to reach his first semifinal of 2014 following a 7-5, 6-4 defeat at the hands of Argentine Carlos Berlocq.
Raonic easily won the first two meetings between the two players, but this was their confrontation on clay, Berlocq’s preferred surface. The 31-year-old veteran, ranked no. 62 in the world, broke Raonic’s serve four times in the match and limited him to just six aces. Berlocq will face Spanish qualifier Daniel Gimeno-Traver in the semifinals.
Raonic will continue his preparation for Roland-Garros next week at the Masters 1000 event in Madrid where he lost in the second round last year to Fernando Verdasco. Eugenie Bouchard (Westmount, QC) is in the women’s draw and will face world no. 3 Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland in the opening round.
