May 6, 2014, Montreal (ISN) – Following the staging of two successful Fed Cup ties in the province of Quebec, Montreal will host the ITF World Team Competition qualifier for junior Davis Cup and Fed Cup from May 8-10, 2014 at Uniprix Stadium.
Male and female Canadian teams in both the U14 and U16 events will try and qualify for the ITF World Team Competition finals for each age category , which brings together the top 16 countries in the world, and will be contested in the Czech Republic and Mexico respectively.
In addition to Canada, four countries will also be in action this weekend in Montreal including the United States, Mexico, Guatemala, and the Dominican Republic. Last year, both of Canada’s U14 teams qualified for the finals and finished in the Top 5. Both U16 squads were unable to qualify.
The competition will feature a round robin format and each tie will be a best-of-three with two singles matches and a doubles match. Matches will be played on the indoor courts at Uniprix Stadium. An opening ceremony will be held on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. and matches will get underway at 10 a.m. for all three days of competition.
