May 8, 2014, SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Maxim Bouchard of St-Constant, Que., and Hailey Casper of Calgary advanced to the men’s 10-m and women’s three-metre finals respectively on Thursday to open the fourth stop on the FINA Grand Prix diving circuit.
On men’s tower, Yanquan Zhang of China dominated the second semifinal with 523.65 points. Bouchard, the Canadian champion, followed in second spot at 410.35 and Fengyang Li of New Zealand was third at 376.25.
The top-three from each of the two semis advance to the final on Saturday. In the morning prelims, Bouchard was ninth and improved his score by 35 points in the semis.
There were two Canadians in the first women’s three-metre semis. Wu Chunting of China ranked first at 332.45, Laura Ryan followed at 297.45 and Casper qualified for the final at 284.85. She edged Emma Friesen of North Vancouver, fourth at 283.50.
In the prelims, Casper was sixth and Friesen 10th.
