May 9, 2014, Mississauga, Ont. (ISN) – Athletics Canada is excited to announce that Olympians Perdita Felicien and Molly Killingbeck will take part in the 2014 edition of Hershey’s Track and Field Games Day in Canada (HTFG Day in Canada).

The event takes place May 25 at St. Marcellinus Secondary School in Mississauga, Ont. HTFG Day in Canada is a national celebration of grassroots track and field programming aimed at increasing awareness through fun competition.  

  

Felicien and Killingbeck will be on-site May 25 to cheer on the hundreds of kids participating in HTFG Day in Canada, sign autographs, and lead Run, Jump, Throw activity stations. The event will also feature a fun mascot race and a free para-athletics clinic with instruction provided by Paralympians. The opportunity to try para-athletics is targeted at children and teens who are visually impaired, wheelchair bound, are afflicted by cerebral palsy, amputees and / or have an intellectual delay.

Perdita Felicien is a two-time world champion and Canada’s most decorated hurdler. Molly Killingbeck won silver at the 1984 Olympic Games, won three Commonwealth Games’ medals and is a two-time Pan American Games medallist.

The 100-metre hurdles Canadian record holder and ten time national champion is excited to take part in HTFG Day in Canada, “Last year I saw kids challenge themselves, achieve personal goals, and laugh themselves silly doing it. I know this year’s event will be no different, that’s why I look forward to encouraging the kids and seeing them grow once again.”

1984 Olympic silver medallist Molly Killingbeck on her involvement, “I am excited to be involved in Hershey’s Track and Field Games Day in Canada and with Run, Jump, Throw – birthplace of talent and the future of sport.  Run, Jump, Throw teaches life-long fundamental skills and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to play a role in the program.”

The 2014 Hershey’s Track and Field Games program features events in 36 communities across the country. Another important program highlight will be the New Brunswick Hershey’s Track and Field Games provincial final which will be held as part of the 2014 Canadian Track and Field Championships in Moncton, N.B.

Every Hershey’s Track and Field Games event offers running events, like the 50-metre dash and the 800-metre run, and field events, like the softball throw and the standing long jump. Kids can qualify through local and regional events and earn on all expenses paid trip to the North American Final in Hershey, Pennsylvania. The 2014 North American Final is set for August 2.
