UBC rugby Division I championship 2014

VANCOUVER – The UBC Thunderbirds men’s rugby team defeated top-seeded Seattle OPSB at Brockton Oval by a score of 30-28 in the Okanagan Spring Brewery League One Final on Saturday. The win capped off an impressive year for UBC, who had already captured the Wightman Boot series against the University of Victoria, the World Cup series against the University of California Golden Bears and the 2014 USA Sevens College Invitational.

Along with The Province Cup, UBC also earned promotion to the 2014-15 Canadian Direct Insurance Premier League.

The match featured two red cards as well as injury delays, but in the end, the students were able to pull out a win against their southern neighbours.

UBC speedster Sean Ferguson bagged a pair of tries and single tallies were also recorded by Rob Fenton and Jorden Sandover-Best. Fly half Bryan Tyrer tacked on a pair of conversions and a penalty with Brock Staller adding a penalty.

UBC were also convincing winners in the Okanagan Spring Brewery League Two Final, easing past Seattle 29-8.
