May 12, 2014, Nanaimo, BC (ISN) – The top Masters curlers in the province will be heading to Nanaimo in 2015 for the BC Masters Curling Championships.

The Nanaimo Curling Centre will host the event, which will feature 16 teams, from March 3-8, 2015.

The Vancouver Island facility is no stranger to Masters events, having hosted the national masters event in 2008 and the Pacific Coast and BC Interior Masters Associations (PCMCA and BCIMCA) combined championship in 2014.

Denise Wood, manager of the Nanaimo Curling Centre, said everyone was looking forward to welcoming the masters curlers.

“We have a lot of fun with the masters. They really enjoy the social aspect of the game. They’re still competitive, but at the same time they are not cut-throat, they want to have a good time,” she said.

Denise added: “We look forward to showcasing our facility and the city of Nanaimo.”

The 2015 BC Masters Curling Championships features eight teams of each gender in a round robin format followed by a top three team playoff.

The winning men’s and women’s teams will travel to Whitehorse, Yukon, for nationals.

The Nanaimo Curling Centre is a fully wheelchair accessible eight-sheet facility located near the centre of the city of Nanaimo. The centre caters to all ages of curlers and has approximately 850 members. The centre welcomes spectators at anytime throughout the season to watch curling. “If you have ever wanted to try throwing a rock we can make that happen too,” said Denise.
