May 14,2014 Victoria, B.C. (VIGolf.ca)- The 51st annual Cedar Hill Open men’s golf tournament is scheduled for May 17 & 18, 2014 at Cedar Hill Golf Course.

With half a century behind it, the Cedar Hill Open is still a local favourite. A full field of 220 golfers, including 20 professionals, will tee it up in this popular 36-hole stroke play tournament.

Former Cedar Hill junior Gordy Scutt will be defending his title as the 2013 champion, with some stiff competition from Lance McCullough, another former Cedar Hill junior and the 2011 champion, and last year’s top amateur Sean Hay. Other golfers to follow include Cory Renfrew (2012 champion), Kevin Carrigan, Scott Kral, Darren Day Jr., Chris Dowds and Kent Fukushima, to name a few.

“There’s always some very high caliber golf at this event,” says club captain Harold Wickstrom. “To score well at Cedar Hill, every part of your game is tested. Your short game and your course management skills are every bit as important as your tee shots.”

Owned by the District of Saanich, the Cedar Hill golf course is a local treasure, with some of the best views in the city. Affectionately known as The Rock, this Par 67 walkable golf course is often underestimated by people who mistakenly think it’s going to be easy to play. However, the narrow fairways, thick rough and small greens will challenge even the best players.

There is no admission charge for spectators and the public is welcome to take in the action this weekend. Players tee off front and back tees both days between 7am and 9am and between noon and 2pm. Professionals and leading amateurs will tee off for their final round about 2pm on Sunday afternoon.
