May 16, 2014, Victoria (ISN) – The Victoria Shamrocks today announced the signings of defencemen Ryan Dilks and brothers Greg and Jon Harnett for the 2014 season.
Dilks arrives in Victoria for his first season in the Western Lacrosse Association after making a name for himself with the National Lacrosse League’s Edmonton Rush and in Ontario’s Major Series Lacrosse with the Kitchener-Waterloo Kodiaks. The Harnett duo will once again dress in green and white after Jon joined Greg on the Shamrocks last season at the trade deadline.
Ryan Dilks, a Hamilton, Ontario product, comes to the Shamrocks after two seasons in Kitchener-Waterloo. In 31 MSL games, the six-foot-one defenceman has 13 goals and six assists for 19 points. In 2013, Dilks set career-highs with the Kodiaks, scoring 10 goals while adding two assists for 12 points in 17 contests. The 23-year-old has also played in 8 MSL playoff games where he has two goals and two assists for four points. Dilks is currently with the Rush who host Game 2 of the West Division Final this weekend.
Greg Harnett, an Orangeville, Ontario native, is entering his third season with the Shamrocks. In 23 career games with Victoria, the 23-year-old has three goals and seven assists for 10 points. Last year, the younger Harnett played in nine games where he tallied a goal and two assists for three points. The left-handed shooting defender also has 19 playoff games under his belt where he has four points (one goal, three assists). Harnett was in the line-up for 13 games last summer and had a goal and two assists for three points during the Shamrocks’ run to the Mann Cup.
Jon Harnett is set to begin his first full-season in the BC capital after being acquired last year from the Coquitlam Adanacs. The six-foot-one defender has 51 games of WLA experience with eight goals and 13 assists for 21 points. In 17 games last season, split between Victoria and Coquitlam, Harnett registered eight points (one goal, seven assists). The Orangeville, Ontario product has taken the floor in 28 career post-season games where he has three goals and 10 assists for 13 points. Harnett was key to the Shamrocks’ playoff last year as he chipped in with five points (two goals, three assists) in 16 contests.
Both Greg and Jon were teammates on the Orangeville Northmen where they won back-to-back Minto Cups as National Junior ‘A’ Champions in 2008 and 2009. The two brothers are also members of the NLL’s Calgary Roughnecks, who are up against Dilks’ Rush in the NLL West Division Final.
“We are very pleased to add three top-flight defenders to our group,” said Shamrocks General Manager & Vice President Chris Welch. “The Harnett brothers have been a great fit with us and we know Ryan Dilks will step right in and be a key contributor.”
Victoria also announced this week a minor deal involving the Maple Ridge Burrards as they sent Nick Stone to the Burrards, in exchange for a fourth round pick in the 2015 WLA Draft.
