May 21 2014 ISN – VICTORIA – The Peninsula Co-op Highlanders are proud to announce the signing of midfielder Sachi Swift and Olivia Swinton for the upcoming Pacific Coast Soccer League (PCSL) season. Swift and Swinton lead the growing movement of young female players climbing up the Highlanders’ system as both girls are still in high school.
Swift was named MVP of the U-15 Girls Gold program and was also named Youth All-Star in 2011 during her time with the Sooke Soccer Club. Swift just finished her first season in the Metro Women Soccer League (MWSL) which will provide experience to the young midfielder as she heads into her first PCSL season. She has worked her way up the Highlanders’ development ladder, starting as a prospect at just 14-years-old.
“Sachi Swift is a 16-year-old and is completing her first season of play with the MWSL women’s team,” said Peninisula Co-op Highlanders’ head coach Dave Dew. “It is a credit to Sachi’s hard work and dedication to the game that she has progressed from a Club Prospect to a starting member of the MWSL team and has now been signed with the PCSL Premier team. Sachi is a versatile player who can play in midfield or as a striker.”
Swinton, a wide defender that can also play midfield for the club, has already committed to the University of Victoria Vikes women’s soccer team for the upcoming fall campaign. Her ability to play in several positions will provide Dew with a variety of options depending on the situation of the game.
“This will be good preparation heading into her winter season with the Vikes,” explained Dew. “She will be able to contribute on a regular basis at a number of different positions for us. She can play in the back and play anywhere in the midfield. She could even play up front if needed.”
Swift, Swinton, and the Highlanders open up their 2014 PCSL season, May 25 against the Vancouver Whitecaps at Simon Fraser University. The team plays its first home game at Hampton Turf, May 31 against the Mid Isle Highlanders.
