May 21st, 2014- Victoria, B.C. (VIGolf.ca) – The 2014 PGA Tour Canada season kicks next week at the Point Grey Golf and Country Club in Vancouver for the PC Financial Open which is a new event to the schedule. One man who is looking forward to this event maybe more so than a lot of other people is Olympic View Golf Club’s Director of Golf Kevin Maxwell as he received a sponsors exemption into the tournament.
Growing up in the Comox Valley, Maxwell was a stand out junior golfer not only on the Island, but also in BC, and Canada. His talent was deserving of a scholarship to the University of New Orleans which excelled his game even more, and saw him play against some of the biggest names now on the PGA Tour. When the Canadian Tour (now PGA Tour Canada) made it’s way through Crown Isle back in 1999, Maxwell Monday qualified for the event as an amateur.
To sweeten to he pot, Kevin could potentially receive another PGA Tour Canada exemption the follow week in Victoria for the Bayview Place Island Savings Open being played at the Uplands Golf Club. He currently leads the Vancouver Island Professional Tour (VIPT) Order of Merit, and at the time of writting this the tour was waiting to hear back from PGA Tour Canada about recieving an exemption for the Order of Merit leader.
“That would be really fun,” he admitted. “I’m hoping to be prepared enough that I don’t feel extremely nervous. Excitement and nervousness are pretty close when it comes to how they feel.
Being a standout junior and college player, Kevin knows what it’s like deal with to deal with nerves, and the emotions of playing golf at very high level. “I think a little nervousness is a good thing. I’ve started preparing and practising more, just to be prepared for that,” mentioned Maxwell who is a very passionate New Orleans Saints fan.
