May 22 2014 ISN – A pair of Nanaimo Clippers grads are being given the opportunity to get on some NHL teams’ radar screens this summer at development camps.

Reid Sturos, who played the 2012-13 season in Nanaimo, will skate at the Winnipeg Jets development camp this summer and Luke Sandler, who played in Nanaimo this past season, will suit up at Detroit Red Wings development camp.

Sturos just completed his freshman season at Michigan Tech University. The speedy, 6-foot-2, 180-pound forward posted all 21 of his points (8G, 13A) in the final 22 games of the Huskies’ season and earned the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) rookie of the week award on two occasions.

Sandler, a 6-foot-3, 205-pound forward, split last season between the Surrey Eagles and Nanaimo putting up nine goals and nine assists while racking up 92 penalty minutes in 30 games. In the 2012-13 season with the Trail Smoke Eaters, Sandler had 22 goals and 21 assists in 50 games to go along with 94 penalty minutes.
