singles draws, Eugenie Bouchard (Westmount, QC) and Milos Raonic (Thornhill, ON)
advanced to the third round on Wednesday at the second Grand Slam event of the

Bouchard took on German Julia Goerges, a former world no. 15 in 2012 who is now
ranked no. 106. Goerges looked like a Top 20 player in the first set which she won
6-2. Bouchard battled back and took over control of the match to secure the final
two sets comfortably and post a 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 victory. She advances to the third
round of the French Open for the first time in her young career after losing in the
second round last year to Maria Sharapova. On Friday, the 20-year-old will face
Johanna Larsson of Sweden who upset no. 12 seed Flavia Pennetta of Italy in the
second round.

Just like his first round match, Raonic went up against a young up and coming player
in Jiri Vesely of the Czech Republic, ranked no. 81 in the world. Vesely was the top
ranked junior in the world in 2011. Raonic over break deficits at 3-5 in the first
set 0-2 in the second to pull out a 7-6(4), 6-4, 6-1 win. The no. 8 seed hit 20 aces
and 49 winners in the match. In the third round, Raonic will meet Frenchman Gilles
Simon. The Canadian won their only previous meeting in 2011 on clay at Estoril.
