LANGLEY, British Columbia – First-year Trinity Western middle distance runner Declan
White (South Surrey, B.C.) led the Spartans in Friday’s CIS Feature Competition as
he earned top spot in the men’s 1500m at Langley’s McLeod Athletic Park.

White posted a personal best time of 3:45.31, bettering his previous record by more
than a second, and, in doing so, edged the University of Victoria’s Thomas Riva for
the win. This past indoor season, Riva won Canada West gold in the 1500m and CIS
gold in the 1000m while White won Canada West gold in the 3000m.

Friday’s meet kicked off a three event series that features university athletes from
TWU, Victoria, Alberta and Calgary as well as a number of elite athletes from
various other clubs.

The series will continue Sunday with the CIS High Performance Twilight Meet at
Coquitlam’s Percy Perry Stadium at 5 p.m. The final event of the series will see
athletes compete in the Jesse Bent Memorial Cheetah Meet June 7-8, which is also at
Percy Perry Stadium.

This is the second year in a row the Spartans have hosted an outdoor series for CIS
schools.
