June 2,2014 (ISN) – Andy saw off a fired-up Fernando Verdasco in straight sets to reach the quarter-finals of the French Open.

The Wimbledon champion came through 6-4 7-5 7-6 (7-3), and will next face Frenchman Gael Monfils on Wednesday.

There was drama in the third set as Murray conceded a point to a furious Verdasco, only for the Spaniard to break back in the next game.

Andy weathered the storm, however, and won the tie-break to seal victory after two hours and 54 minutes.

Speaking after the match Andy said

It was an unbelievable atmosphere. I really enjoyed myself, we played some great points and he fought extremely hard. I was a bit nervous at the end but I am glad I managed to get through. I was trying to play more aggressively because I knew I was going to be tired in my legs. I am laughing at myself most of the time rather than smiling, but I love it here.
