VANCOUVER – The UBC Thunderbirds will have to come from behind in order to capture the men’s competition at the Golf Canada Canadian University/College Championship in Winnipeg.
The Thunderbirds relinquished the lead they held for the first two rounds to the host Manitoba Bisons on Thursday. UBC shot a 9-over par 297 while Manitoba was 12 strokes better today and will carry a two-shot lead heading into tomorrow’s final round.

In the individual competition, UBC’s Scott Secord continues to sit atop the leaderboard. The junior from Calgary shot a 1-under 71 in the third round to move to 12-under 204 for the tournament and sits 10 shots ahead of his nearest rival.
He had a spectacular finish, earning birdies on the 14th, 16th and 18th holes to record a red number for his round.
Teammate Jack Wood of Banff, Alta. carded a 4-over 76 but remains in the top 10 in a tie for eighth place with a total score of 2-over 218.
Conner Kozak shot his second straight 3-over 75, which has the Vernon, B.C. native in a tie for 19th at 4-over 220.
Nate Ollis of Victoria was 3-over on the day and is 9-over for the tournament, tied for 34th.
Derek Hinchcliffe, of Corunna, Ont., carded a 5-over 77 on Thursday and owns a three-round total of 18-over 234. He’s tied for 48th.
