(ISN) – Montreal, June 6, 2014 – Two years after reaching her first junior Grand Slam semifinal at Wimbledon in 2012, Françoise Abanda (Montreal, QC) was trying to reach her first Major junior final on Friday at Roland-Garros when she took on top-seeded Serbian Ivana Jorovic.
Jorovic was quick out of the blocks to grab a 5-2 lead in the first set. Abanda won the next two games, and had chances to level the score at 5-5, but was unable to convert. The 17-year-old Canadian never recovered from losing the set and fell 6-4, 6-0 in just over an hour. Abanda had a tough serving day, getting just 48 percent of her first serves in and she was broken seven times in the match
Abanda, who has primarily played professional tournaments this year as indicated by her WTA ranking of no. 262, was competing in her first junior tournament of 2014.
