(ISN) – Victoria, BC – June 11, 2014) PISE (Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence) is taking summer camps to a whole new level with the introduction of a new Wheelchair Sports camp that is open to all abilities.
The camp, for ages 8 – 10, runs from July 14 – 18 at PISE, located on Camosun College Interurban Campus.
Wheelchair sports have always been popular at PISE so a five-day camp was created to give kids of all abilities the opportunity to try out the different activities and have fun. “Every time we tell the kids it’s time to get out of the chairs, they don’t want to! They have so much fun,” says Chris Wright, Summer Camp Coordinator.
Wheelchair sports are very popular and are not just for people with mobility limitations. Each day will introduce an adapted game such as wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby or sitting
volleyball. Kids will get lots of time to explore games and play in the wheelchairs along with regular camp games and sports. “Kids will have a blast playing new games and learning about the world of Parasport,” adds Wright.
PISE has always been pro-active with Parasports – during Parasports Schools Week in March PISE staff took wheelchairs to schools so that students could experience first-hand just how much fun the sport can be. PISE has also hosted Wheelchair Basketball Provincial tournaments and the National Wheelchair Rugby team trains at the sports facility.
PISE Summer Camps have always been designed to be integrated so that anyone can come and have fun. Camps offer a full range of sports and activities – starting June 30 they run throughout the summer.
