Grizzlies Keep It in the Family with de Jong
Brendon de Jong follows in brother’s footstep and commits to play for Victoria Grizzlies for the upcoming season
The Victoria product played for the Pacific Sea Devils U-16 last season where he played in 32 games and recorded 13 points (4G, 9A). The 6’3”, 160-pound defenseman helped the Juan de Fuca Grizzlies win the Bantam Tier 2 provincial championship and played in Under-16 B.C. Cup in 2013.
Brendan’s brother Nolan played two seasons for the Grizzlies from 2011-2013 and is currently attending the University of Michigan.
Goaltending Prospect Cleary Commits to Grizzlies
Lake Forest Academy goaltender Sean Cleary has committed to play for the Victoria Grizzlies for the upcoming season.
The Native of Centerville Massachusetts played in 27 games last season in the United States Midwest Prep Hockey League where he had a record of 16 wins, 8 losses, 2 ties, 1 Shootout loss, and 1 Overtime loss. In those games he recorded 4 shutouts and had a goals against average of 2.23 and save percentage of 0.918.
In midseason NHL draft rankings the 6’4 keeper was ranked 19th among North American goalies and might stir some interest in upcoming NHL draft.
Victoria Adds A Winner With Kennedy
Matt Kennedy comes to the Victoria Grizzlies after winning the Independent School’s version of the Triple Crown with the St. Andrews College
The forward from Mount Pearl Newfoundland finished third in team scoring last season with 72 points in 53 games played. The 5’10” alternate captain scored 24 goals and recorded 48 assists in his senior year.
Last season with the St. Andrews Kennedy won the rare Independent School’s version of the Triple Crown. When his team won the MacPherson Tournament title, the Conference of Independent Schools Athletic Association (CISAA) and the Midwest Prep Hockey League championships
Grizzlies Bring In Leadership with Thompson
Vancouver NW Giants Captain Quinn Thompson commits to play for the Victoria Grizzlies for the upcoming season.
The West Vancouver product played the last two seasons in the BC Hockey Major Midget League for Vancouver. Last season the 5’10” forward was the team captain and lead the team to a regular season title before losing in Pacific Regional Championship.
Last season Thompson was seventh in regular season scoring with 59 points with 26 goals and 33 assists. In the playoffs action he averaged a goal a game scoring 6 goals in 6 games.
Grizzlies Bring in Grit with Van Lierop
Lake Forest Academy’s captain Cody Van Lierop has committed to play for the Victoria Grizzlies for the upcoming season.
The Native of Sutton West Ontario had 103 penalty minutes, 8 goals and 24 assists playing last season in the United States Midwest Prep Hockey League.
The 6 foot defenseman is a two sport athlete also competing in boys varsity volleyball where he was named the team’s MVP.
Grizzlies Add Varsity Leadership
The Victoria Grizzlies have commitment from Upper Canada College’s co-captains Justin Sadler and PJ Conlon.
Justin Saddler is a booming 6’3” 194lbs defensemen from Columbus Ohio. Last season Saddler had 7 goals, 16 assists and 62 penalty minutes in 54 games. Saddler also played on the Varsity Baseball team and captured CISAA Championship.
PJ Conlon is a powerful 5’11” 179lbs forward from Goderich Ontario. Conlon had 16 goals, 19 assists and 42 penalty minutes in 54 games. Conlon also competes on the varsity tennis team where he captured the silver medal in boys singles at OFSAA.
Sadler and Conlon both played four years varsity hockey and were co-captains for UCC and hope to bring that leadership and experience to the Grizzlies line-up.
