June 18, 2014, Victoria (ISN) – Decades of Victoria Lacrosse will collide as ‘Rocks battle ‘Bellies. The Victoria Shamrocks (6-0-1) will look to keep their undefeated record intact on Friday night as they welcome the New Westminster Salmonbellies for a special night at 100.3 The Q Centre.
This Friday’s game against the Salmonbellies will be the Shamrocks Alumni Night Presented by CFAX 1070 and Jenner Chevrolet Buick GMC. Fans can join the Shamrocks and alumni for a pre-game family tailgate BBQ and beer garden starting at 6:00. During the first intermission, Shamrocks Alumni will be welcomed onto the floor and will be introduced by the decade.
“I am looking forward to seeing some old teammates and having some of our players meet them afterwards,” said Victoria head coach Bob Heyes. “It was great last year when we had the alumni event. It has become a big thing that will help us build to where we want to be.”
Last week saw Victoria play a pair of road games on the mainland in Langley and Burnaby. On Wednesday night, The Shamrocks scored nine goals in the second period as they defeated the Langley Thunder 13-4. Two nights later, Victoria found themselves in an offensive showdown with the Burnaby Lakers. The Shamrocks and Lakers traded goals until the final frame when Victoria pulled away for a 13-10 win.
Victoria is the only team in the country without a loss. With 13 points through seven games, the Shamrocks have a three-point cushion and one game in hand on the second-place Maple Ridge Burrards.
Rhys Duch played a key role in the Shamrocks success last week with eight goals and five assists for 13 points. The Victoria product is tied for first on the team in goals with 19 tallies and sits second in points with 35.
Victoria is next in action on Sunday, June. 22 as they visit the Maple Ridge Burrards at Planet Ice. The Shamrocks will be back at 100.3 The Q Centre on Friday, June. 27 when they host the Burrards. Game time is 7:45 p.m. The next home game will be the Shamrocks’ Family Night & Player Card Give-Away presented by Peninsula Co-op.
