Mayors’ challenge baseball game

June 20,2014(ISN) – It’s Baseball Day in Victoria

Greater Victoria Baseball’s semi-elite take on
local mayoral squad for diamond supremacy
Saturday, June 21, 2014

Your 2014 park champions may be crowned, but there’s still plenty of baseball to be played this summer!
Come cheer on your GVBA Golden Eagles – a.k.a. your Greater Victoria Baseball Association board members –
as they vie for baseball bragging rights in a friendly match-up with local mayors at Royal Athletic Park.
Part of the Victoria HarbourCats’ Baseball Day in Victoria, which also includes morning youth skills camps and
an evening exhibition game, the Mayor’s Challenge gets under way Saturday at 3:30 p.m. with an all-star line-up
of representatives from local GVBA parks, including Carnarvon, Gordon Head at Lambrick Park, Layritz, Esquimalt,
Triangle and Peninsula.

Not to be confused with GVBA’s high-performance Eagles teams, the “Golden Eagles” will take to the field under
the sharp eye of Manager Carol Ogborne, doing their best to clip the wings of the mayoral squad, to include:

• Victoria Mayor Dean Fortin
• Saanich Mayor Frank Leonard
• Oak Bay Mayor Nils Jensen
• Metchosin Mayor John Ranns
• MLA Andrew Weaver

• Chandler Grieve (CTV)
• Cliff LeQuesne (100.3 The Q)
• Jeff King (CHEK News)
• Kiley Stanton (Global)
• Steve Duffy (C-FAX 1070)
• Travis Paterson (Black Press)

Following what’s sure to be an entertaining four innings, families can take in a HarbourCats exhibition game vs.
the Pacific International League’s Langley Blaze beginning at 7:11 p.m. (regular ticket prices apply). Batting practice
will start at 5:30 p.m. and will be open to the public.
