Hilary Caldwell top Canadian at U.S. Grand Prix

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – World championship medallist Hilary Caldwell took fourth spot in the women’s 200-m backstroke on Saturday at the final stop on the U.S. Grand Prix swimming circuit.

The Americans swept the medals in the event with Elizabeth Beisel first in 209.11, Elizabeth Pelton second in 2:09.73 and Missy Franklin third in 2:09.86. Caldwell, who trains at the Swimming Canada High Performance Centre – Victoria, followed in 2:10.85.

Dominique Bouchard of North Bay, Ont., was sixth.

Other Canadian finalists were Brittany MacLean of Etobicoke, Ont., fifth in the 200-m freestyle  and Erika Seltenreich-Hodgson of Ottawa sixth in in the women’s 400-m individual medley.

Canadian swimmers have four medals after three days of competition. MacLean has two silver and double Olympic medallist Ryan Cochrane of the High Performance Centre – Victoria two bronze.

Competition ends Sunday.
