Highlanders’ Academy Program enjoys Skagit Tournament experience

VICTORIA – Over the past weekend, June 20 – 22, the Victoria Highlanders’ Academy Program took part in the 20th Annual Skagit Firecracker Tournament. The tournament was held at Skagit River Park in Burlington, Wash. This was the third straight year that the Highlanders’ program participated in the tournament.

The Highlanders program took down 10 teams to take part in the experience.
The tournament hosts a wide range of age groups and is open to all premier and select level teams both in and out of state. The age divisions range from Boys and Girls U-9 to U-19 with each team is guaranteed three games to play.
“It has a couple key benefits with it being such a massive tournament,” Highlanders’ Director of Youth Development Neil Sedgwick said. “It was a fantastic experience for the players to be a part of something with so many teams.”
The tournament has become a great experience for soccer players of all ages. The kids get to enjoy competitive games in a fun environment that isn’t all about winning.
The Highlanders’ Youth Academy provides players aged 9 to 17 with advanced player development and training of the highest standard and quality. Players participate in a professional development environment with a clear focus on developing their technical and tactical habits.
