Island Wave Teams in Provincial Finals

June 26,2014(ISN) – Two Vancouver Island Wave teams will play for BC Soccer Premier League Provincial Championships this coming weekend in Langley. The 98 Boys and 99 Girls both secured berths in the finals last weekend with semi-final victories on the road in Surrey and Burnaby.

On Saturday, the 98 Boys beat Surrey United on penalties after Charlie Miller, Gorge, tied the game up with three minutes of overtime remaining. Miller also scored a penalty and was joined on the scoring list by Jack Hill, Gorge, Jonah Smith, Gorge, and Michael Henman, Peninsula Soccer Association. Goalkeeper Max Branyik, Saanich Fusion, saved two penalties to ease the boys through to the final.

The following day the 98 Girls defeated Mountain United 2-0 with goals from Aislinn Shinomura, Lakehill and Trinity Kettyls, Saanich Fusion. The girls scored early and late and in between worked hard to protect goalkeeper Jadyn Paltiel, Saanich Fusion, who kept a clean sheet.

The boys advance to face Coquitlam Metro Ford and the girls will face Surrey United with Provincial Championships on the line.
