June 30,2014(ISN) – On Sunday at McLeod Athletic Park in Langley, the Vancouver Island Wave U15 girls’ team beat Surrey United and were crowned Provincial Premier Cup Champions. The Provincial Premier Cup is the highest Youth Provincial Cup in BC which services boys and girls from the under 13 age division to under 18.
This is the first time in the Vancouver Island Wave history that a girls’ team has participated in the finals as well as won the event.
It was an outstanding game of soccer with the Provinces two best teams vying to be crowned Provincial Champions. Goalkeeper Jaydyn Paltiel, Saanich Fusion, was spectacular in goal for the Wave. A goal midway through the first half from a corner by Anna Slang, Cowichan Valley Youth Soccer, was enough to give the Island girls the gold medal. Slang was also voted the Most Valuable Player by the BC Soccer provincial staff. The U15 girls’ team is coached by Josip Bratanovic who is also the Technical Director for Salt Spring United.
The Vancouver Island Wave team is made up from players Lower Island Soccer Association and Upper Island Soccer Association who play in the EA Sports BC Soccer Premier League.
