OTTAWA – Swimming Canada announced today its open water teams for the FINA World Junior Open Water Championships and the Junior Pan Pacific Championships.

Named to the team for the FINA World Junior Open Water Swimming Championships set for Aug. 28-30 in Eilat, Israel are Tessa Cieplucha of the Oakville (Ont.) Aquatic Club and Brooke Lamoureux of the Comox Valley (B.C.

) Aquatic Club, both 15, for the women and Josh Zakala, 16, of Kelowna (B.C.) Aquatics and Sebastian Paulins, 16, of the Brantford (Ont.) Aquatic Club for the men.

The open water swimmers for the Junior Pan Pacific Championships Aug. 27-31 in Hawaii are Jon McKay of UVIC/Pacific Coast Swimming in B.C. and Liam Desjarlais of Quebec’s Club de natation St-Jerôme for the men and Victoria Mock of Pacific Coast Swimming and Justine Rhéaume of Montreal’s CAMO for the women.

The swimmers earned the spots with strong performances earlier this month at the Flowers Sea Swim open water competition in the Cayman Islands.

Zakala and Paulins led Canada to a clean medal sweep in the men’s five kilometre while Cieplucha and Lamoureux did the same in the women’s five kilometre.

McKay and Desjarlais were second and third in the men’s 10-kilometre as were Mock and Rhéaume in the women’s 10-km.

Swimming Canada also named its team for the Pan American Sport Festival September 26th to 30th in Mexico City.

The men’s selections are Desjarlais, Gael Chaubet of Natation Elite de Longueuil (Que.), Montana Champage of the Greater Ottawa Kingfish Swim Club and Samuel Bélanger of l’Université Laval (Que.) Rouge et Or.  For the women, Frédérique Cigna of CAMO, Annika Grewal of Oakville, Charlotte Philpotts of CHENA Swim Club and Kylie Masse of the Windsor Essex (Ont.) Swim Team.
