July 3,2014(ISN) – Langford, B.C. – The Westshore Rebels Junior football team main camp kicks
off this weekend at Westhills Stadium (1089 Langford Parkway) on Saturday
July 5 at 10am-12 & 2-4.
On Sunday July 6 the team will hold a full gear
scrimmage from 12-2. Everyone in the community and the Greater Victoria
area are invited to come out both days to watch the team, get information on
game tickets, purchase tickets to the teams fundraising raffle (which
includes hundreds of dollars of prizes), buy some Rebels merchandise or just
come by and ask questions and meet members from the team. 5 year CFL player
and now retired Jesse Newman from the BC lions will be on hand as guest
coach at the camp.
With the 2014 season less than a month away, the team is putting out a
request for sponsorship at home games, in our game program, on our website
and various other areas we have available. As we near the regular season we
are off our pace of past years numbers. As a non for profit organization
that pays for transportation, equipment and stadium rental we rely on the
business community and donations to help our program stay viable, and in
return provide an enjoyable and family event for the community. We value
our current sponsors and urge others to contact us and see how we can work
together to promote your company and keep junior football in the Greater
Victoria area possible for these young men.
The team has also made some coaching changes heading into the main camp.
Co-Head coach Tom Fong has stepped down for personal reasons and Rebels
alumni Ryan Henderson has been appointed Defensive Coordinator. Andrew
Axhorn will continue as Head Coach. The rest of the coaching team is as
follows; Sheldon Halliman (Assistant Head Coach/Linebackers), Eric Eggleston
(Receivers), Randy Mar (Defensive Backs), Drew Rands (D- Line & O-Line),
Byrce Rands (Offensive Coordinator) and James Robertson (Special
Teams/Strength & Conditioning).
