July 5,2014(ISN) – SUN CITY, South Africa—Canadian athletes won five medals, including two golds, on the first day of competition Wednesday at the Indo Pacific Trampoline and Tumbling Championships.
Mario Bruno of Kamloops, B.C., won gold in the double mini trampoline for competitors 17 and older with a score of 136.200. Sean Robertson of Burlington, Ont., took the top spot in the same age group in men’s tumbling with 91.40 points.
“I feel pretty good overall,” said Bruno, 17, in his second year on the national team.
“One of my passes I didn’t perform as well, but I thought the last pass was fairly good.”
Robertson, who moved up to the senior team in 2012, was also pleased with his overall performance.
“I don’t think I could have done much better.”
In women’s double mini Tiana Hesmert of Richmond, B.C. earned the silver medal in women’s 17 and older with 130.800 points.
Australia’s Braids Thomas took the gold with 131.000 points and Candice van Rooney of South Africa was third at 126.100.
Also winning medals for Canada were Ben Senior of Oakville, Ont., who won silver in tumbling and John Rowden of Langley, B.C., who earned bronze in men’s double mini.
