VICTORIA – The Peninsula Co-op Highlanders will look for their eighth straight win of the Pacific Coast Soccer League season when they visit Fraser Valley Action on Tuesday, July 8 at Trinity Western. The match will be the second and final regular season meeting between the two squads.

SCHEDULE / STANDINGS

A pair of opportunistic goals from Highlanders captain Liz Hansen and Jaymie Cawley as well as an opposition own goal helped the Highlanders to a 3-1 win over Kamloops Heat on Sunday, July 6. The win maintained their league leading standing at 21 points. Hansen, as well as teammates Emma Greig, Kiara Kilbey, and Sarah Douglas all factor in the top-10 in league scoring. The importance of the 3-1 win over Kamloops isn’t lost on head coach Dave Dew.

“The [Kamloops Heat] game was vital in securing first place,” Dew commented. “The players maintained their standards and stayed organized defensively.”

Fraser Valley currently sit fourth in the table with a 3-3-1 record and 10 points. The Action have played a good two-way game all season with 18 goals scored and only 10 conceded so far on the campaign. They are led offensively by Isabella Ditrocchio, with six goals, and Jessica King, with three goals. Fraser Valley is coming off a 3-1 loss to Vancouver Whitecaps FC. The previous meeting between the Highlanders and the Action ended in a 3-2 victory for Victoria on June 7, with Emma Greig picking up the hat trick. Although the Highlanders sit top of the table, head coach Dew stresses the importance of pushing forward.

“Looking ahead to Tuesday, we know that we need four points in the next three games to ensure first place,” added Dew. “The players are united in the cause ahead and our goal of bringing home the PCSL Premier Division League Championship.”

Kick-off at Trinity Western is set for 7:00 p.m. The women will then play their final road match of the regular season against Kamloops Heat on Saturday, July 12 before returning home to finish their season against Mid Isle Highlanders on Sunday, July 20 at Hampton Park.
