VANCOUVER – Ten UBC Thunderbirds rowers have been chosen to represent Canada this summer at two prestigious international events.

Surrey native Hillary Janssens and Zoe Fettig-Winn of Victoria have been named to the Canadian women’s coxless four entry at the 2014 World Rowing Under-23 Championships, taking place July 23-27 in Varese, Italy.

Then in early September, eight Thunderbirds will be part of the Canadian contingent that will compete at the World University Rowing Championships in Gravelines, France.

Aaron Lattimer of Delta and Vancouver’s Angus Todd make up half of the Canadian lightweight men’s four crew, while Langley’s Alex Janzen will row in the men’s four.

Five of the men’s eight rowers are from UBC: Ben Coull (Vancouver), Ben de Wit (Nakusp, B.C.), Graeme Blaskovich (Rossland, B.C.), Eben Prevec (Hamilton, Ont.) and Robert Gage (Hamilton, Ont.).

The FISU World Rowing Championships, running Sept. 12-14 at the Parc des Rives de l’Aa, are open to all student athletes who are presently studying or who have graduated within the past year. Athletes must be between 17 and 28 years of age.
