Wednesday, July 9th, 2014. Victoria, British Columbia ( – For the third year in a row, Bear Mountain’s Amateur Championship was won by a resident member. Eric Seider was the man to beat as he fired a round of 69 on Saturday on The Valley Course, while backing that up with a 70 on Sunday on The Mountain Course.

Bear Mountain“Although my scores were similar, the way they came about was completely different. Saturday I hit 18 greens in reg, made 6 birdies, and had four three putts all resulting in bogeys. Sunday I only hit 9 greens in reg, but was able to get up and down 8 out 9 times, carding 16 pars, 1 bogey and 1 birdie,” said Seider who is Golf Town’s General Manager.

As tough as Bear Mountain can play at times, the 7200 yard Mountain course, and the 6800 yard Valley course; both bared it’s teeth over the weekend as Seider was the only player under par throughout the tournament. Bill Quin, who came close to finishing the tournament under par, putted out on Sunday with a two day total of even par.

According to Jordan Ray, Bear Mountain’s Director of Golf; the draw was a full field and the golfers were treated to an immaculate conditioned golf course.

“The course is in unreal shape right now thanks to our new ownership and increased budget things are really coming together. It was great that our owner Ecoasis came on board to be the title sponsor and that helped bring out a larger field than last year, so we’re also pleased with that too”.

Finishing in the third place was Matt Haddad, who finished the tournament at three over par, while hot on his heels in fourth place was Mill Bay local Derek Reid at five over par. Rob Lokken and Ryan Ruedebusch tied for fifth at six over par, while Robert Ko fired a two day total of seven over par to finish in solo seventh. Rounding out the top ten was Steve Hiscox in eighth at eight over par, as Kristian, Seve Hambleton, and Robbie Potesta forced a three way tie for ninth at ten over par.

On the Net side of things, it was Bill Quinn claiming low net honors, as Rob Stevenson finsihed in second, followed by closely by Bryce Twa and Steve Hambleton who finished in a tie for third.
