Strong finishes put divers on top at 2014 Speedo Junior Development Championships

(ISN) – MONTREAL – Rylan Wiens of the Saskatoon Diving Club and Mia Doucet-Vallée of the
Pointe-Claire Diving Club both saved their best for last to win the boys three-metre
and girls one-metre at the 2014 Speedo Junior Development Championships.

In boys 12-13 three-metre, Wiens and Bjorn Markentin, also of the Saskatoon Diving
Club, placed 1-2 with 353.60 and 343.00 points respectively. Bryden Hattie of
Boardworks in Victoria was third at 318.95.

”I was able to pull it together for my last three dives,” said Wiens, 12. ”My
first fives dives were not that great but I never lost confidence. I knew my three
best dives were at the end.”

In the girls 12-13 one-metre, Doucet-Vallée produced 297.35 with Margo Erlam of the
Calgary Diving Club second at 296.70 and Erin Field of Pointe-Claire third at

”My diving was OK,” said Doucet-Vallée, 13. ”My last two dives were definitely
my best.”

In the 11 and under age group Simone Leathead of Club CAMO in Montreal and Cedric
Fofana of le club Rouge et Or in Quebec City were the winners.

On girls one-metre, Leathead took top spot with 264.90, Romane Saito, also of CAMO,
was second at 260.90 and Maggie Nixon of the Forrest City club in London, Ont.,
third at 248.25.

On boys three-metre, Fofana compiled 326.30, Nathan Zsombor-Murray of Pointe-Claire
was second at 295.35 and Ben Smyth of Victoria third at 287.30.

Competition continues through to Sunday at the Centre Claude-Robillard.
