VICTORIA –Peninsula Co-op Highlanders will look to clinch their first Pacific Coast Soccer League Title in club history when they visit Kamloops Heat on Saturday, July 12 at McArthur Island. Saturday’s match will be the second meeting in less than a week between the squads

A pair of braces from Katie Kraeutner and captain Liz Hansen helped the Highlanders to a 4-1 victory over Fraser Valley Action on Tuesday, July 8. The win increased their lead on the table with 24 points and all but clinched the PCSL Title for the Victoria side. Hansen, along with teammates Emma Greig, Kiara Kilbey, Katie Kraeutner, and Sarah Douglas all factor in the top-10 for league scoring.

“The team is developing in a positive direction, and we want to continue our run of good fortune,” explained Highlanders head coach Dave Dew. “We must remain focused on our goal of securing the League title, first and foremost, and if we perform well, at the end of the schedule we will have achieved that goal.”

Kamloops Heat currently sit third in the table with a 4-4-1 record and 13 points with players Taylor Miller and Kelsey Martin both featuring in the top-10 for league scoring. This will be the second meeting of the season between the two clubs with the previous encounter ending in a 3-1 win for the Highlanders on July 6. Kamloops Heat is coming off a 3-1 loss to Vancouver Whitecaps FC. With the league title in reach, Dew knows that the host team will provide a tough challenge.

“The last few games have been tougher and we know the hosts are a good team and well organized, with a couple of very special players,” added Dew. “That, combined with the travel and the heat of the Interior it will make this a difficult situation, which is tremendous preparation for the playoffs later this month.”

Kick-off at McArthur Island is set for 2:00 p.m. The women will then finish their PCSL regular season at home against Mid Isle Highlanders on Sunday, July 20 at Hampton Park.
