July 16,2014(ISN) – The Bellingham Bells have won five in a row, and five in a row over their
West Division rivals, the Victoria HarbourCats — that’s the latest after
the teams met again Tuesday in Bellingham.
The HarbourCats were held at bay until the seventh inning, with two
Bellingham pitchers threatening to hang a perfect game on Victoria. Sean
Watkins, with his fourth home run of the season sailing over the centre
field fence, ended the perfecto but it wasn’t enough as the Bells prevailed
3-1 at Joe Martin Field.
Preston Ryan got the start for the HarbourCats, his first of the season,
and pitched into the fifth inning, giving up all three runs on a home run.
He surrendered seven hits and struck out one. Ryan’s New Mexico teammate
Carson Schneider tossed four innings of relief.
Three Bellingham pitchers limited the HarbourCats to three hits — the
Watkins homer, a triple by Bryce Greager in the eighth inning that failed
to lead to a run, and a hustle double by Griffin Andreychuk in the ninth
Eder Erives and Moises Ceja combined on eight innings with one hit, one
run, no walks and eight strikeouts.
The two teams close out the three-game set on Wednesday in Bellingham. The
HarbourCats head home on Thursday to face the Klamath Falls Gems in
Victoria Chamber of Commerce Night, and Friday brings the Synergy Health
Harvey the HarbourCat Bobblehead Night at Sports Traders Diamond.
Saturday’s game, also a 7:11pm start, is Bottle Depot Night.
