Highlanders’ reserves look to wrap up PCSL regular season

VICTORIA – Victoria Highlanders FC’s reserve teams wrap up their Pacific Coast Soccer League campaigns this week as they play their final matches of the season. The women’s reserves will look for their fifth straight victory and a chance to claim the league title.

Meanwhile, the men’s reserves will be looking to finish their season strong and to secure a playoff spot.

WOMEN’S RESERVES LOOK TO CLAIM LEAGUE TITLE

The women’s reserve team is coming off a 3-2 victory over Fraser Valley Action on Sunday, July 13. A pair of goals from Liz Hansen and an Alynn Dagg goal fueled the offence for the Highlanders as they battled to their fourth straight victory.

Up next for the women is Kelowna United on Saturday, July 19 at Hampton Park. Kick-off his set for 2:00 p.m. This will be the second meeting of the season between these two teams with the previous meeting ending in a 6-1 Victoria win on Saturday, May 24. Kelowna United is coming off a 3-0 loss to TSS Academy Red, and currently sits fifth in the table with a 4-6-0 record. With a win, the women will clinch the reserve league title with a record of 9-1-2.

MEN’S RESERVES LOOK FOR STRONG FINISH

The men’s reserves are coming off a tough 8-2 loss to Mid Isle Highlanders on Saturday, July 12. Hamish Walde and Mike Henman provided the offence for a resilient Highlanders’ squad that never gave up against the undefeated league champions.

Up next for the men is West Vancouver FC on Thursday, July 17 at Ambleside Park. Kick-off is set for 6:00 p.m. This will be the second meeting of the season between these clubs with the previous meeting ending in a 2-1 win for the Highlanders on Sunday, June 8. WVFC is coming off a 4-1 victory over Chilliwack FC, and currently sits fourth in table with a 3-6-1 record. The men’s reserves will be looking to improve their 3-4-3 record and move one step closer to a playoff spot.
