Race notes
Almost as many volunteers as riders this evening. Only six took the start so the race was shortened to 30 laps with 4 intermediate primes. The pace picked up soon after the start and the 4th. Lap was the fastest of the race, at 1′ 38″. At this point, Mike Gill and Patrick Burnham were dropped and Mike slowed right down to join the break 5 laps later, albeit a lap down. Mark Wieler took the lead for three laps and at the bell for the first prime was still in front but, by the time the sprint came, it was Iain Hay 1st, with Justin Mark 2nd. Then these two, with Mike Sevcov established the critical break. Within 5 laps, they were 35 seconds up and just before prime no. 2 they picked up Patrick. Iain again bested Justin and at this point, they dropped Mike Sevcov as well asMark, and both Patrick and Mike a Gill for the second time. Gill again dropped back and lost a second lap but managed to stay with the lead duo as they passed.
Mike Sevcov was by this time the only unlapped rider and he continued on, with Patrick and Mark in tow til the finish. The final sprint was won by Iain from Justin with Mike Gill crossing the line 3rd. 2 laps down.
Iain ended up winning all four primes with Justin in 2nd. Place each time.
Thanks to Rachel, Paul, Derek, Brodie and Iain for volunteering.
There will be no criterium for the next two weeks.
