July 18,2014(ISN) – VICTORIA –Peninsula Co-op Highlanders will look to put the finishing touches on their undefeated Pacific Coast Soccer League season when they host Mid Isle Highlanders on Sunday, July 20 at Hampton Park. Sunday’s match is the women’s final game of the PCSL regular season as they look to push their record to a perfect 10-0-0.
An opportune goal from Sachi Swift was all the offence the Highlanders needed as they claimed a 1-0 victory over Kamloops Heat on Saturday, July 12. The win clinched the PCSL title for the women with 27 points and a 9-0-0 record. Captain Liz Hansen, Emma Greig, Kiara Kilbey, and Katie Kraeutner all factor in the top-10 for league scoring.
“Winning the league title has been a great achievement for the players and the club,” commented Dew. “Our next goal is to get into the PCSL final and see if we can bring home the playoff championship.”
Mid Isle Highlanders have endured a trying season in the PCSL, with a winless 0-8-0 record representing a handful of tough outings. The squad currently sit last in the league table. It will be the second meeting of the season between the clubs with the previous encounter ending in a 6-0 Victoria win on June 20. Mid Isle is coming off a 7-0 loss to the Kamloops Heat. With the league title wrapped up and the team playing strongly, Dew is already looking to maintain consistency for the postseason.
“The team is going to maintain their high standards of play,” added Dew. “They know that with the playoffs just around the corner it is important to maintain consistency.”
Kick-off at Hampton Park is set for 2:00 p.m.
