Jeff Francis

VANCOUVER – UBC Sports Hall of Fame member and former Thunderbirds pitcher Jeff Francis earned his first win with baseball’s most storied club, the New York Yankees, on Tuesday night.

Francis threw a scoreless 14th inning in his New York debut to give his new team a 2-1 victory over the visiting Texas Rangers. His performance allowed another new Yankee, Chase Headley, to single home the game-winning run in the bottom of the 14th.

Francis was traded to New York on July 11 by the Oakland Athletics, a team with which he earned his first career Major League Baseball save on June 28.
