VANCOUVER – UBC Thunderbirds Zoe Fettig-Winn, a third-year Kinesiology student from Victoria, and second-year Science student Hillary Janssens, of Surrey, have earned an opportunity to win a medal at the World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Varese, Italy.

On Wednesday, the opening day of the championships, Fettig-Winn and Janssens were part of the Canadian women’s four crew that finished second in its heat with a time of seven minutes and 7.03 seconds. Nicole Hare and Michelle Aylard make up the other half of the team.

Canada trailed only Russia, which crossed the finish line in 7:01.85, but was well ahead of the third-place squad from Ukraine (7:18.21).

With the top two countries from each heat advancing directly to the event final, Canada clinched a spot in the July 26 finale.
