(ISN) – Montreal, July 25, 2014 – Tennis Canada announced Friday that Switzerland’s Martina
Hingis will compete in doubles at the Rogers Cup presented by National Bank, which
will be held from August 1-10, 2014 at Uniprix Stadium in Montreal. The former World
No. 1 and five-time Grand Slam champion will team up with Flavia Pennetta of Italy.

Hingis has enjoyed a lot of success in Canada during her illustrious career and has
always been a crowd favourite. She is one of six players to win consecutive Rogers
Cup titles (1999 and 2000) and one of three players in tournament history to win
both the singles and doubles titles in the same year (2000).

Hingis, who retired from the WTA in 2007, returned to the tour last summer in an
attempt to make a comeback in doubles. In 2013, she participated in five
tournaments, including the Rogers Cup in Toronto, and compiled a 3-5 record. This
season, Hingis was crowned champion alongside German Sabine Lisicki at the WTA
Premier event in Miami. She also reached the final in Eastbourne with Pennetta. The
Swiss is currently ranked no. 43 on the WTA doubles rankings. Hingis plans on
pairing with Pennetta throughout the North American summer hard court season.
