Canada suffer losses at Light and Welterweight during the Round of 16.
Gauthier and Biyarslanov suffered decision losses in the Round of 16. Bad news for Canada but there are still five more competitors awaiting their chance to progress.

Gauthier performed well, but not enough to convince any of the judges in a unanimous loss. A decision he was vocal about after the fight
“It was a close bout and I think I deserved a split decision either for or against me. A unanimous decision was too much”
He quickly gave the due respect to his opponent of the night.
“It’s a champions sport and you have to have a champion’s heart win or lose. Cordina and I have that.”

Arthur Biyarslanov faired a little better in his battle with Manoj Manoj Kumar that could have went to either fighter. It was decided that Kumar bested the Canadian by means of a split decision.
With five left there is plenty of chance for some more Canadian gold. We’ll keep you posted.
