Highlanders mourn passing of local sports figure Peter Songhurst
On behalf of the Staff, Players and Volunteers of Victoria Highlanders FC, we express our deep sorrow for the passing of local sports and community member Peter Songhurst.
Peter’s decades of contributions to local amateur sports in Victoria is a testament to his community minded approach on life.
The Highlanders send condolences to Peter’s family and friends and would like to acknowledge his outstanding commitment to the Highlanders football club and Victoria sports throughout his life. He will be missed and always remembered.

SONGHURST, Peter Charles April 9, 1948 – July 29, 2014 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Peter Songhurst on Tuesday July 29th, 2014. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Clare Songhurst; brother, David Songhurst; sister, Eileen Dalman and father-in-law, Ralph Wills. Peter is survived by his loving wife, Maureen; daughter, Jennifer (Ryan) Hill; grandchildren, Jackson and April Hill. He is also survived by his sister, Margaret (Steve) Trottier; sister, Maureen (Derek) James; his mother-in-law, Susette Wills and many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews, Julie, Michael, Halle and Brian Alton; Michael, Trudy, William, Therron, Lucas and Camilla Trottier; Cheryl, Ryan, Owen and Lachlan Haight. Daniel Trottier and Keryl Gardner; Matthew, Joshua and Allison James. Peter would also like to acknowledge his many dear friends . .. we had quite a ride! “How lucky I am to have something that makes saying good bye so hard” A.A. Milne. Thank you to Dr. Dan Buie, Dr Adrian Yee and all the staff at the BC Cancer Clinic and the staff and Doctors at the Royal Jubilee Hospital for all their special care. Thank you also to Dr. Thomas Nevill and all the nurses from the Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Unit at Vancouver General Hospital. What an amazing team of people! We also appreciate all the special care shown by the Hospice team. He was treated with dignity and respect throughout his stay. We especially wish to thank all of you who donate blood. It is the “gift of life” for so many. There will be no funeral or memorial service at Peter’s specific request.
