Aug 5,2014(ISN) – After big seasons on the pitch, the University of Saskatchewan Huskie soccer squads
look to get into winning form for the 2014 season.
Training sessions for both the men’s and women’s teams begin Thursday afternoon with
two-a-days scheduled from Friday until Monday.
Huskie soccer will feature a new format and a new venue for the women in 2014.
Within the new soccer structure, 2011 Canada West Men’s Soccer MVP Jerson
Barandica-Hamilton and Florida State Women’s Soccer MVP Janine Harding will co-coach
the Huskie Athletics women’s soccer program. Current men’s soccer head coach Bryce
Chapman will assume the role as soccer program director for programs at the
University of Saskatchewan. His duties will also include continuing to coach the
The women will now also play and train on the grass of Field 7 in PotashCorp Park.
Both teams will play non-conference matches prior to the season. The men will travel
to Burnaby to meet the Simon Fraser University Clan on August 22 and 24th, while the
women will host the Medicine Hat College Rattlers on August 30 and 31.
The Huskie men’s team will open the Canada West season at home on September 6
against the Calgary Dinos, while the women’s season starts on the road on September
5 against the Winnipeg Wesmen.
