Volleyball Tigers bolster 2014-15 line up

Aug 6,2014(ISN) – Dalhousie University women’s volleyball head coach Rick Scott is pleased to announce
the commitment of Gabby Sakowicz and Anne Krywitsky to the Tigers 2014-15 roster.

Port Moody, BC native Gabby Sakowicz comes to the Tigers as a member of the
Coquitlam Ducks Volleyball Club. In her six years as a libero, she has claimed two
national medals (gold U16 and bronze U17). She also has three British Columbia
volleyball provincial championship titles and has represented Team BC on a number of

A four-year member of the Port Moody Secondary School girls’ volleyball team,
Sakowicz was her team’s captain in 2013 and 2014 and earned MVP both years. In her
final season, she was named her school’s top female athlete and the senior girls’
basketball team’s most inspirational player.

“I am very excited to become a Dalhousie Tiger in September,” says Sakowicz.
“Although I am moving across the country, I know that Dal will be an amazing change
and will provide me with the opportunity to mature and develop as a

Sakowicz is a four-time honour roll recipient and recently received the Port Moody
Secondary Phoenix Award, awarded to a student who exceedingly excels in academics,
athletics and community service. She is enrolled in Dalhousie’s commerce program.

“Gabby will provide excellent back court play with her defence and passing,” says
Scott. “She has been a part of some very successful Coquitlam Duck Volleyball Club
and BC provincial team programs over the past years, where she has demonstrated a
tireless work ethic and brought great energy and leadership to her teams.”

Anne Krywitsky is a 6’0″ outside hitter from Calgary, AB. A member of the 18U Elite
Volleyball Club, she was named their MVP this season. She spent her 17U club year
with the SAVC Storm, earning a silver medal at provincials. Krywitsky started her
club volleyball career in her 15U year with the Dinos Volleyball Club and also
helped them to silver medal finishes.

As a member of the Dr. E. P. Scarlett High School volleyball team, she was
recognized for her leadership and team spirit with an award of Distinction in each
of her three years, in addition to being named their team MVP in grade 12. A
multisport athlete, Krywitsky earned a great number of accolades with the Cascade
Swim Club. At the 2008 Alberta Summer Games, she collected seven gold medals and in
2011, she was ranked in the top 10 in Canada (for her age group) and has competed
and medaled internationally.

“I am so excited to be given the opportunity to attend Dalhousie and play for the
Tigers,” says Krywitsky. “I’ve heard nothing but great things about Coach Scott and
I can’t wait to meet my teammates and coaches!”

An honour roll student, Krywitsky is enrolled in Dalhousie’s Bachelor of Arts program.

“Anne is an excellent all-round athlete that brings a strong, physical presence to
the court,” says Scott. “She has shown great character and excellent development
over the past year and was a key player for her Calgary Elite Club volleyball team.
We look forward to her continued development and she will be an important part of
the Tigers team in the future years.”
