Aug 7,2014(ISN) – ALBERTA – The Alberta Soccer Association’s Alberta Major Soccer League (AMSL) will
wrap up the 2014 edition of the league this coming week with the men’s league title
still up for grabs.
Edmonton’s Northwest United Women’s team has already clinched
the title on the female side in an outstanding season where they have only lost once
and boast a +50 goal differential with two games still remaining.
On the men’s side, Lethbridge FC will be looking for a win against Edmonton Green &
Gold on Friday August 8th in Lethbridge at the Servus Sports Centre to officially
clinch the league’s 23rd AMSL title. Last year’s champions Edmonton Scottish and the
Calgary Callies would have to win their remaining two games to have a chance at this
year’s league title should Lethbridge FC lose or draw. The men’s side will also see
local rivalries heat up this week with three Edmonton teams (Drillers, Green & Gold,
Croatia Dinamo) battling it out for the remaining two Provincial qualifying spots
and two Calgary teams (Villains and Dinosaurs) contending for one spot.
The top three north teams and top three south teams in each of the men’s and women’s
AMSL leagues will advance to the Challenge Cup and Jubilee Shield Provincial
Championships respectively which will be held over the course of the September long
weekend (August 29 to September 1) at the ESA Complex in Edmonton. The winners of
those competitions will qualify for Canada Soccer’s National Championships held from
October 8 to 13 in Vaughan, Ontario.
