Duncan, BC – The Cowichan Capitals Hockey Club is pleased to announce that defenseman Jacob Switzer (’95) has committed for the 2014/2015 hockey season.
Switzer, 19, spent the 2013/14 hockey season with the Richmond Generals of the Metropolitan Junior Hockey League. In 34 games last season, he had 27 points (7g-20a) along with 81 penalty minutes.
“I’m extremely excited I think it’s going to be a good opportunity for me to come play some great hockey up in Canada,” said Switzer.
When asked about why he made the decision to commit to the Capitals, Switzer said, “just because of the great league that they’re in and then that they’re out in Western Canada on the Island, I’ve heard it’s beautiful out there. Plus it’s great hockey and all the exposure they get from colleges.”
The native of Swansea, Illinois will add much size on the Capitals defense as the right-handed blue liner stands 6’3 tall and weighs 212 pounds. Along with size and grit, Switzer will skill and leadership to the Capitals blue line that already has a strong top-six.
“Jake is a good puck moving D that will be a physical presence with his size and compete level,” said Capitals Head Coach and General Manager, Bob Beatty. “He has been a favourite with his coaches and teammates in the past because of the work ethic and attitude he brings consistently.”
“I like to make a steady first pass and be a trustworthy defenseman; I’d like to come up and make the line up every night and have a good year,” added Switzer
The Capitals would like to welcome Switzer to the organization.
