After emerging as one of the premium receivers in the CIS lastyear, wide receiver Addison Richards will look to continue thatmomentum this season as he enters his CFL Draft year.

Richards was tabbed as a player on the verge of a breakthroughseason in 2012, but injuries saw him play in just four of theteam’s games. That breakthrough happened in a big way in2013, though, as Richards led the Rams with 46 receptions and piledup 614 receiving yards on his way to a second-team All-Canadiannomination.

Richards has great size and speed, checking in at 6-5, 205 lbs.and running the 40-yard dash in 4.65 seconds at the East West Bowlearlier this year. He’s considered one of the top prospectsfor the 2015 CFL Draft, coming in at No. 6 on a CFL.ca listpublished earlier this summer.

“Addison is a great example of what a varsity athlete canbe and should be,” Rams head coach Frank McCrystal said.“He’s entirely committed to training, academics, and tounderstanding the game. He’s an absolutely exceptionalathlete with great size, strength, and speed.”

Though some key additions on the offensive line should mean theRams will be able to run the ball more effectively this season, theU of R always places a heavy emphasis on the passing game and 2014should be no different with fifth-year quarterback Cayman Shutterback at the helm. Richards along with Jared Janotta and Landon Buchwill likely be Shutter’s top targets with Mark McConkey andKolten Solomon graduated, and McCrystal expects continued progressfrom young receivers Davin Johnston, Richard Sindani, and RileyWilson.

Richards is a biochemistry major through Campion College’sFaculty of Science.
